Vaughan Oliver

Designer Research: Vaughan Oliver Album Covers

For Designing this final image I wanted it to be heavily placed within the golden sections as to draw the eye to specific parts of the image without taking away from it will heavy colours and gaudy text. to mimic Vaughan’s style I used heavy blurs and strong textures to imitate his style. I made sure to keep everything with the golden section using a guide I made for the page size. For the texturing I followed this tutorial for papered money patterns.

Peter Grundy

Designer Research: Peter Grundy

For this design I made patterns to overlay on the shirt and I tried to make it look as similar to the simplistic but proportional work of Peter Grundy. For the text I followed a tutorial which proved to be effective as the typo works well with the simplistic yet refined look of Grundy’s.

El Lissitzky

Designer Research: El Lissitzky

For a Lissitsky’s works I used simple shapes and textures to create the visuals. for the 3d effects on it I used the set perspective tool in illustrator to give more effect to the shapes as seen in some of his other works. for the light texture overlay I used a site called texture town which provides free textures on demand to download.

Telling Stories:

The Song i have based my book off is Les Fleurs.

Typo:

The type face i chose for the title is Lemon Jelly which is a font used in flower shop front faces.

Editing Photos across into illustrator. I decided for a very strong floral look.

Photoshop

Using the illustrated flower i made i turned it into a brush pattern to be abused in photoshop.

I used the back as the lyrics page so that i didnt have to spread it across the entire book.

bringing across more floral elements like tulips and petals. also working alot between applications (going back and forth between illustrator and photoshop)

wanted a tone contrast against the other pages as the mid point of the book so i chose a stark black background with the centre point of the flower being iluminated.

for the final page i incorperated everything from the previous pages. i wanted the petals to be creeping out from the darkness back into the page and returning to the flowers and floral motif which i built up in the first few pages.
