Mood Board

Collecting images and ideas for designs on Figma. For the project I wanted to create a 3d mould of myself which could be used as a relief to create candles or other objects to be burned or destroyed for my album covers. This required to look into 3d modelling and printing.

candle making

This was my attempt at making the candles by hand instead of using a mould relief. I made these by carving candles with a scalpel and pin. I then placed it on a music box and recorded image sequences of it spinning round.

Melting

For one of my covers I wanted a before and after of the candle to symbolise the death of one of the band mates so I also took sequenced images of the candle physically melting.

Info Box

for making the 3d model of myself I needed to get a full 360 scan of my body. This meant that I would need to make a turntable which would be able to withstand my weight. So I went down to Kennys workshop and had a hand with making a turntable and then proceeded to make a few different scans of myself.

Paper Mache

using the 3d mould I printed I made paper mache versions of myself which I then took photos of and promptly destroyed.

Digital shiz

Now I started bringing my images into photoshop and illustrator to create my album designs. I wanted to keep to the dark moody theme of the 2D project to hold cohesion across the project so I went with much darker themes and colours with these album covers.

Digital shiz

For the back and front of this album I used the 3d printed relief mould as the 3d object on the covers. This gave a cool effect as though the model of me was jumping out of the album cover.

Digital shiz

For this cover I wanted to use the mould relief for multiple candles however the mould was created flawed and could release the wax when poured. So I decided on using a more flexible material. Paper mache work well for this as it allowed for the mould to easily be reused and still showed a clear outline of what the models where meant to be.

Digital shiz

I wanted the front and back of this cover to tell a story of destruction so the front shows a gradual decline in quality as the paper spreads out more from left to right. On the backside of the cover I wanted it be the fill decimation of the reliefs to show the death of the band and the nature of it.

Digital shiz

for this cover I also wanted to tell a story. The story being told is the burning of the band member which is visually shown by the melting of the figure across the front and back of the album covers.

Digital shiz

on both these covers I left the light of the flame to be the only thing on the covers visually in colour. This is to show how the fire is the cause of the melting ( burning and death of the band mate ).

Mockup shiz

Here are some mockups of the final designs in the place of album covers.
